Happy New Year and welcome to the tenth year anniversary of Team Evesham. This year will see many events to mark our anniversary; including a new 10 year jersey. We started with only 8 cyclists in 2008 and we have welcomed hundreds of folks to ride with us. Some riders went on to racing, some riders moved to other states, and some riders now bring their spouses out to ride with us. Cycling, it’s the sport to last a lifetime!
The friendships that have been made during the years have been just incredible, folks meet when riding and now they are lifelong friends. Many of us who have been riding with the team for years just look around and we are astounded at the close relationships and personal stories that lay behind “just riding a bike”.
We are fortunate to find so much besides just cycling. This year we watched so many personal goals being surpassed; both miles ridden, and shared memories. We even have teammates going off on vacation together and helping out with random acts of kindness. Numerous riders have started out as novices and now they are moving up and teaching others the joy of cycling and being part of a team.
The last nine days have had temperatures below freezing and the Arctic Freeze has descended on our area at least thru this coming weekend. According to our ace statistician, the temperatures here were colder than Anchorage, Alaska this past weekend. In 2018 Team Evesham will be participating in two extraordinary cycling events to raise money for charities here at home.
The first event is the Bridge to the Beach Cancer ride on June 10. This ride goes to Atlantic City and you can follow our “Faces of Cancer” on our homepage. Cancer impacts more than 87% of the families in the United States,
On September 15, Team Evesham will take to the roads to ride in the Foster 100, this charity event is to provide service dogs to returning veterans. The government provides no funding for this vital need for our service men and women. Last year, 17 team mates participated in this event, and it was spectacular. This ride ends in Cape May. More details about both of these events in the months to come.
Also remember to sign up for the great after holiday party on January 20. The first 75 folks who sign up to attend the celebration will receive a special gift. To register click here on “You are Invited”
We want to thank all of those team members who wanted to serve on our Board of Trustees and on our committees. The terms of the Board members are staggered and each year from now on we could have Board vacancies. Serving on a standing committee will give you a great background into the inner workings of the team.
For the 2018 year the Team Evesham Board of Trustees is composed of the following members:
Dave Bennis-Vice President
Our thanks to John Murphy and Mike Barth for serving two years on our Board of Trustees and being the first incorporators of the team when we first became a stand alone public charity.
We hope to see you all at the After Holiday Party, be safe, and stay warm.
