I started riding about forty years ago during my college days. My buddy worked at D&Q in Haddon Heights with Joe Vitale where I bought my first road bike a Johana. Over the years I have done some great riding, thru the Baja in Mexico, many times with the Southern CA bike club and numerous charity rides.
Fast forward about 36 years I met Sandy Student at my gym, he encouraged me to come out to do group riding with Team Evesham I did and totally enjoyed doing it. After a couple of months I told Dave Bennis and Sandy if they ever needed help with the club I would enjoy giving back a little of what they give. The next thing I knew I was taking a ride leadership course given by Glen Page and shortly after leading a C group. This brings me to “ Why I ride” Although I am not a very fast rider and never have been, I enjoy riding and leading the C riders as many of them are beginners when they start and within a few rides they are ready for the next level of riding. This past weekend I had a great group of about ten people. I was the lead, Joe Lempa was the middle sweep, Alan Finkelstein was the sweep, and Fred Levine assisted me on navigation. What a great team ! I also am a believer in ride safety, and group riding is considered to be safety in numbers as you are easier to spot in larger numbers.
In summary the bicycling community for the most part is a very friendly group of people always willing to assist if needed. Love being a part of it.
