I bet that my reason for riding is probably just like everyone else’s. When you find something that you are passionate about and it also happens to be good for you…. well, there’s a certain amount of JOY that comes with that. I believe in doing things in life that bring JOY to others and also in living a JOYFUL life myself. I joined Team Evesham by way of my friend, Ross Polinow. I had been a frequent “spinner” in cycling classes that he also took; some of which were taught by his wife. Like many others, I’d always loved being on my bike. Ross then introduced me to another friend, “Richie-B”, as I call him, our very own Rich Bernstein. Before I knew it, I’d said “yes” to riding with them, on my hybrid, yes, my HYBRID, to Atlantic City. It was great fun. We finished at Trump Marina and got to enjoy beverages, sunshine, live music, and camaraderie with our spouses (mostly because we needed a ride home 😉
What I didn’t realize back at that time, is that those things would continue and that I would experience even more JOY. I never imagined that I’d have such an amazing circle of friends. Team Evesham is that circle. I also ride to bring JOY to others – and maybe even a little hope. In some small way, through our team’s charitable rides, we have the ability to touch others, and we do! When I did my first MS century ride four years ago, I was absolutely JOYFUL and touched when at the finish in Ocean City, people who were afflicted with MS were thanking me. I thought it was the most crazy thing. And behind my sunglasses, what they didn’t see was that I was crying. I thought to myself, all I’d done is raise some money to help others – and I ENJOYED doing it and biking the 100 miles. I will continue to participate in our charitable adventures.
In closing, Sandy encourages us to recruit new members – and I’m very happy to have my beloved husband, Fran along for the ride. For those of you who I haven’t yet met – I look forward to doing so. See you on the road.
